Counterbalance forklift truck
What everyone calls a Fenwick, after a Paris firm founded in 1862.
Hard ground, flat ground, pallets:
outside that framework, it does nothing.
Other names for this machine: forklift, fork truck, and 'a Fenwick' - a French make that became a common noun.
- Category
- CACES R.489 categories 3 and 4 depending on the capacity
- Status
- Partial carrier
What it does
the load overhangs in front of the axle — it is the counterweight that decides what it lifts.
Diagrammatic silhouette, without dimensions and not to scale.
Lifting and moving palletised loads on hard, flat ground:
dock, workshop, depot, merchant's yard.
What it does not do. It does not leave hard ground.
On an earth site, it does nothing.
off the slab, it no longer works.

What governs the fitting of an attachment
-
The standardised carriage and its class
Truck carriages follow standardised classes.
That is what makes handling attachments interchangeable — within the limits of the class. -
The residual capacity
Any attachment fitted on the carriage uses up capacity:
its own weight and its forward offset.
The capacity shown on the plate no longer holds. - The lift height and the type of mast They decide the entry envelope and the height reached, two independent constraints.
-
The nature of the ground
An industrial truck does not leave hard, flat ground.
No attachment corrects that.
One model, as a reference point
The values below hold for this model only.
They are there to give an order of magnitude to anyone who has none, not to serve as a reference.
- Rated capacity
- 2,5 t
- Load centre of gravity
- 500 mm
- Lift height
- 3 230 mm
- Standardised carriage
- ISO 2328, class A or B 2A
- Working pressure
- 230 bar
- Operating weight
- 3 918 kg
Caveat. The rated capacity applies for a load centre of gravity at 500 mm.
Any attachment fitted on the carriage uses up capacity, through its own weight and its offset:
the truck's plate then no longer holds.

These values are those of one precise model, at one precise date. They do not describe a category:
there are no characteristics of a compact loader in general, there are those of the model you have.
They change from one year to the next and never replace the data sheet of your machine.

We check
the coupler, the flow, the pressure and the capacity on your machine,
and we tell you what fits on it — and what does not.
