Local authorities and roads
A technical department does not do one trade:
it does them all, with one machine and
one budget. The right question is not which tool to buy, but how many
tools a single machine can carry in the year.
This trade also covers: municipal technical departments, joint authorities, road maintenance boards, direct labour organisations, winter maintenance, maintenance of public spaces, differentiated management.

What this trade demands of the tooling
The same worker, the same machine and the same week:
resetting a sunken
kerb, cleaning out a ditch, weeding a gutter, trimming a hedge, and at the first
frost clearing snow from the accesses. No private firm has a range as
wide.
Two constraints peculiar to the public sector, and they weigh heavily. The
capital budget is voted once:
what is not bought this year
will not be before the next — the coupler and the hydraulic lines
must therefore be planned for the tools to come, not only for those of
today.
And the calendar is set by the season, not by the
programme.
they will be relaid.
Barriers, cones, one lane left clear. A council job is judged on the reinstatement and on the disruption, not on the cubic metre.

The tools that matter, season by season
-
Weed control without chemicals
The weed-control brush tears the
vegetation out of the joints and the gutters.
Where chemical weed control is not an option in a public space, mechanical is what remains — and the brush is what treats a length of kerb fastest. -
Roads
The kerb grab lays and relays without
a worker carrying anything.
The asphalt disc opens cleanly, the vibrating plate closes it up again. - Green spaces The rotary mulcher for banks and verges, the saw trimmer for rows of trees you want to keep, the pruning saw and the shears for clearing the road envelope.
- Winter The snow blade for the accesses the lorry cannot reach — school yards, car parks, fire brigade accesses — and thespreader to treat in the same pass.
- The ditch and the service Ditching bucket, trapezoidal bucket, trencher for a lighting duct.
A single machine can carry all of this — on one condition. That it has the hydraulic lines and the coupler the tools you will buy in three years call for. It is the most structuring decision of a technical department, and it is taken when the machine is bought, not when the tool is bought.
What is checked before fitting out
- The number of auxiliary lines, and those to be provided for Not only for this year's tool. See the 7 criteria.
-
Consistency of coupler with the existing fleet
A technical department often owns several machines.
One and the same coupler family lets the tools be shared between them. -
The surfaces to be treated
Old setts, asphalt, exposed-aggregate concrete:
that governs the brush and the wear strip.
A brush that is too aggressive causes lasting damage, and the damage shows. -
What the public contract imposes
The documents of a contract often describe performance requirements that
designate the tool.
We can help you translate a requirement into a characteristic — without ever writing a specification that would favour one make.
Have your fleet checked.
Give us your machines and the list of the work your department carries out in
the year, including what you put out to contract.
We will tell you what fits
on what you already have, and what would call for a change of machine.

The same tool is not chosen in the same way depending on who fits it, and on what is around it.

Agriculture
Drainage, ditches, hedges, land clearing, handling.
-
Pipelayer and services
Opening narrow, laying heavy, closing clean.
-
Quarries and rock
Blasting out, picking up, loading a material that wears everything.
- Local authorities and roads You are here. Roads, green spaces, winter maintenance, weed control.
-
Demolition and recycling
Bringing down, separating the materials, crushing on the spot.
-
Railways
The tool is the simple part; access to the track is not.
-
Special foundations
Driving, boring, supporting — before anything comes out of the ground.
-
Forestry and silviculture
Mulching, felling, extracting, stump grinding, restoring.
-
Hire companies
A tool that goes on several machines earns; a dedicated tool sleeps.
-
Landscaper
Getting in without damage, working the soil, maintaining.
-
Recycling and waste
Sorting, gripping, separating, recovering on the spot.
-
Civil engineering and roads
Opening, laying, closing, and giving the road back in good order.
