Compactor
Tightening a material to give it its final bearing capacity.
Without it, the earthworks do not hold — and it will never make up for a badly chosen material.
Other names for this machine: roller, drum roller, vibrating roller, pneumatic-tyred roller.
- Category
- CACES R.482A category D (compaction machines)
- Status
- Partial carrier
What it does
the smooth drum for asphalt, the padfoot drum for soil — the choice is made on the material.

What it does not do. It does not make up for a badly chosen material or for a layer that is too thick.
a smooth surface may not be compacted.

What governs the fitting of an attachment
-
The type of drum
Smooth, padfoot, combination, pneumatic:
each serves one family of materials. - The compaction energy The amplitude and frequency of the vibration decide the thickness of the layer treated.
- The thickness of the layer A layer that is too thick does not compact, whatever machine is run over it.
- The water content of the material It governs the result more surely than the number of passes.
One model, as a reference point
The values below hold for this model only.
They are there to give an order of magnitude to anyone who has none, not to serve as a reference.

- Linear mass
- 34,7 kg/cm
- Vibration frequency
- 30 to 36 Hz

- Classification
- NF P 98-736, classes VM3 and VM2
Caveat. The NF P 98-736 classification is what counts on a French site:
it says what layer thickness and what material the machine can actually compact, far better than its mass does.

These values are those of one precise model, at one precise date. They do not describe a category:
there are no characteristics of a compact loader in general, there are those of the model you have.
They change from one year to the next and never replace the data sheet of your machine.

the coupler, the flow, the pressure and the capacity on your machine,
