Attachments for a 2 to 5 tonne mini-excavator
It is the best served class on the market.
Almost every family of
attachments has a model for it — and that is precisely what makes the choice difficult.
Other names for this class: mini-excavator, mini-excavator, mini digger, compact excavator, 3 tonne excavator, 3 t excavator, micro-excavator, mini digging machine, 2.5 t excavator, 5 tonne excavator.

- The flow available
- Strength
- The choice
at this tonnage almost everything exists, and it is the flow available that settles it.
The relative sizes are indicative.
and that is often what decides, before the power.

What this class allows, and what it rules out
It is the most widespread hire machine, and the one owned by most
landscapers, builders and roads-and-utilities firms.
It still goes through a
gateway, it travels on a trailer, and it has enough power for the
majority of everyday jobs.
Almost every family of attachments offers a model for this class.
The problem is therefore no longer finding the tool:
it is finding the right one
in an overabundant offer, where the differences in quality are considerable
at equal size.
The constraint that decides here is the hydraulic flow. The
tools with a continuous function — rotary mulcher, screener, mixer, brush — call for
a sustained flow throughout the job.
On this class, a flow that is only just enough
does not cause a breakdown:
it makes the output collapse, and it overheats.
The tools that go on this class
The ranges below are recorded from real models in our database.
They
say that a model exists for this class — not that every model
in a family suits it.
-
All the earthmoving, without reservation
Buckets,
ditching,
trapezoidal,
grading blades,
ripping teeth.
No hydraulic line needed, except in the tilting version. -
Green spaces are the heart of this class
Rotary mulcher 1.5 to 15 t,
pruning saw 2.8 to 8 t,
saw trimmer 2.6 to 8 t.
The forestry rake recorded covers 0.8 to 9 t. - Sorting and handling Sorting grab, crocodile grapple bucket 1.5 to 5 t, timber grapple 2 to 35 t, forks.
-
Recycling in the mini version
Screening bucket mini
1.5 to 8 t, mixing bucket
2.5 to 8 t.
Both call for an auxiliary line and a continuous flow. -
Drilling and compaction
Auger,
vibrating plate.
A breaker recorded covers 4 to 7 t — that is, only the top of this class.
It is also the class where a tiltrotator starts to be justified. When the machine carries five or six different tools in the year, the tilt and the rotation change the working method, not only the comfort. See the tiltrotator.
What is checked before buying
-
The flow of the auxiliary line, continuously
Not the peak flow:
the one the machine holds for an hour.
It is what decides the output of rotating tools. See the 7 criteria. -
The number of hydraulic functions
One line is enough for a rotary mulcher.
Two are needed for a rotating grab, and more still with a tiltrotator. - The type and the exact size of coupler It is in this class that the most different systems are found, and they are not interchangeable. See the couplers.
-
The cooling, if the tool turns continuously
A summer, a rotary mulcher and a machine without a big enough cooler:
that is the combination that makes the oil overheat.
Have your machine checked.
Give us the make, the model and the auxiliary flow if you know it.
Tell us also how many tools you intend to fit in the year:
it is that
which decides whether a quick coupler, or even a tiltrotator, pays for itself.
