Attachments for a 5 to 10 tonne excavator

The pivotal class.
Enough power for demolition and recycling, still compact enough for an urban site — and that is where the hydraulic coupler stops being a luxury.

Other names for this class: midi-excavator, midi digger, compact excavator, 8 tonne excavator, 8 tonne digger, 6 t excavator, intermediate excavator, 10 tonne excavator.

Your class is in the middle. The question becomes the number of functions the machine can control, not its force — that is where the hydraulic coupler stops being a luxury.
The relative sizes are indicative.
A medium-sized excavator digging a trench in a city street, a site lorry parked behind it.
Small enough to sit on one lane, big enough to load:
it is the class of services and roads.

01 The class

What this class allows, and what it rules out

It is the first class that does real heavy work without becoming a logistical problem.
It still travels on an ordinary low-loader, it gets onto a city-centre site, and it has the flow needed for a breaker or a grab.

It is also the threshold of the hydraulic coupler. One model recorded covers 4 to 60 t:
from this class on, changing tools without getting out of the cab becomes an ordinary choice, not a convenience option.

The constraint that decides here is the number of hydraulic functions. A hydraulic coupler uses up one function.
A rotating grab uses up two.
A tiltrotator more still.
The machine you have does not necessarily have enough lines for the tool you are aiming at, and that does not show on a sales data sheet.

02 What fits

The tools that go on this class

What does not fit yet: the screening bucket from the large range, of which one model recorded starts at 17 t.
On this class, it is the mini range that is needed, and it does not give the same output.

03 Check

What is checked before buying

  • How many hydraulic functions are really available And how many are left once the coupler is fed. See the 7 criteria.
  • The flow and the pressure, at working speed A badly fed breaker does not break:
it strikes without effect, and it wears out.
  • The type and size of coupler An S type coupler recorded covers 1 to 90 t in successive sizes:
it is the size that counts, not the family. See the couplers.
  • The operating weight, arm extended A crusher bucket or a screener work loaded.
It is that weight that governs the sizing, not the catalogue one.

Have your machine checked.

Give us the make, the model, and above all the number of auxiliary lines installed.
On this class, it is that piece of information that opens or closes half the catalogue.
