01 Use

What it does

Silhouette of a road milling machine: a machine on short tracks, milling drum under the chassis, conveyor raised at the front discharging the millings into a lorry, and behind it the clean slot left in the asphalt. Diagrammatic silhouette, without dimensions and not to scale.
What sets it apart:
it takes off a measured thickness, and loads the lorry without anything being picked up off the ground.
Diagrammatic silhouette, without dimensions and not to scale.

Removing a thickness of asphalt across a full width before resurfacing.

What it does not do. On the edges, around manholes and on small areas, the excavator attachment takes the advantage again.

02 Fitting
A road milling machine planing a lane, its discharge conveyor loading a lorry that keeps pace with it; the milled surface leaves regular grooves behind it.
It planes and it loads in the same movement:
the lorry moves with it, it does not wait for it.

What decides its use

  • The volume and the distance They are what decide whether this machine has a place on the site, or whether another will do the same work for less.
  • The room available A machine that cannot manoeuvre does not produce, whatever its capacity.
  • The rate of the neighbouring machines It is rarely calculated and often costs more than the hire:
a machine that waits costs as much as a machine that works.
  • Transport to the worksite It governs what can actually be sent, and it is settled before everything else.
03 Reference point

One model, as a reference point

The values below hold for this model only.
They are there to give an order of magnitude to anyone who has none, not to serve as a reference.

Wirtgen W 100 Fi
Milling width
1 000 mm
Maximum depth
330 mm
Operating weight
20,000 kg, EC standard
Maximum power
265 kW, that is 360 hp
Milling speed
0 to 3.6 km/h

Caveat. A milling width of 1,000 mm leaves all the edge work, the manholes and the small areas to the equipped excavator.
That is exactly the boundary between the two.

These values are those of one precise model, at one precise date. They do not describe a category:
there are no characteristics of a compact loader in general, there are those of the model you have.
They change from one year to the next and never replace the data sheet of your machine.

Have your machine checked.

Give us the exact model and the work you have in mind.
We check the coupler, the flow, the pressure and the capacity on your machine, and we tell you what fits on it — and what does not.
