Ground stabilisation grids

On the left, the cellular grids filled with gravel form a firm area, the lorry parks on it without marking the ground. On the right, without grids, the same area is a quagmire cut with ruts where the lorry gets bogged down. Computer-generated image.

Cellular panels, laid on the ground then filled.
They make a firm platform on soft ground,
and rainwater keeps soaking in.

Other names for this product: cellular panels, stabilisation panels, gravel grids, grass pavers, grass reinforcement panels, honeycomb grids, geocells.

What sets them apart:
they stay in place for months or years, and the ground stays permeable under the platform.

A stabilisation grid is a plastic panel divided into cells, which interlocks with its neighbours to cover a surface.
Once filled with gravel or grassed soil, the cells hold the infill in place:
the weight of the vehicles is spread, and the ground does not form ruts.

They are used where a track must last longer than a single passage:
long site access, site base, storage area, equipment park, farm track or turning area.
They are not taken up every evening like ground protection mats, they stay.

The ground stays permeable:
rainwater soaks in between the cells instead of running off.
Grassed, the platform stays green between two passages.

A grid does not replace the subgrade. Under the panels, the ground is prepared and levelled, and very soft ground may need a sub-base layer.
The permitted load depends on the model, the infill and the ground underneath, not on a generic figure.

02 What we check with you

On which machine?

These grids are not fitted to any machine: the machines drive over them.
The area to cover, the heaviest machine and the type of ground: we calculate them with you for your site.

What the tool does

These are interlocking plastic panels, often recycled.
Laid by hand on a prepared base, they are filled with gravel, or with soil and grass, depending on the use.
Their dimensions and the permitted load: we calculate them with you for your site.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

They need no power source and no connection.

Your study sets the exact value for your machine.

Don't have these figures?
A photo of the machine is enough to start.

03 Your study

Have your site checked.

Describe the area to stabilise, the ground and the vehicles that will pass over it.
State how long the platform must serve.

What we need to answer you
  • The area Its length and width, or a plan of the ground.
  • The ground Soil, clay, sand, fill, and whether it stays waterlogged in winter.
  • The vehicles Cars, lorries, site machines, and whether they park or only pass through.
  • The infill Gravel for a service area, grass for an area that must stay green.
  • The duration A site lasting a few months, or a permanent platform.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The ground underneath Soil, clay, sand, fill:
the preparation of the base and the height of the panel are chosen with it.
  • 02 — The vehicles Cars, lorries, site machines:
the model is chosen with the heaviest vehicle, laden, and with what it does on the area.
  • 03 — Gravel or grass The infill decides the look:
gravel for an area with frequent traffic, grass for an area that must stay green.
  • 04 — Temporary or permanent The duration decides the laying:
grids that are taken up again for a site, careful laying on a prepared base for a permanent platform.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The permitted load It is checked against the heaviest vehicle, laden, with the infill and the actual ground underneath, not against a figure read on its own.
  • Interlocking Depending on the model, the panels lock together:
a panel that lifts opens a hole in the platform.
  • The subgrade Its preparation is decided before ordering, with the actual ground on site.
  • The infill The quantity of gravel or soil is planned with the area and the height of the panels.
