The auger turns a screw in the ground and brings the soil up along its flights.
Carried on the three-point linkage, it is driven by the power take-off of the tractor, through a shaft fitted with a slip clutch; hitched to the Euro hitch, the loader, the telehandler or the forklift, it is driven by an integrated hydraulic motor, in one direction or the other.

Depending on the model, a parallel guide keeps the auger plumb, the orientation is adjusted by cylinder, an extension gains depth, and the bit is changed according to the hole.
This is the tool for fencing, vineyard or orchard stakes, planting, shed posts and foundation footings.

An auger that hits a stone or a root locks up at once. The slip clutch of the drive protects the tractor, not the person left near the auger.
The useful diameter and depth depend on the model and the bit, not on a generic figure.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

01 — The holes to drill Fence posts, stakes, planting, light foundations:
the bit diameter and the depth are chosen with the structure.
02 — The soil Loam, sticky clay, stones, roots:
the point, the cutters and the torque count more than the power.
03 — Power take-off or hydraulics On the three-point linkage, the power take-off drives the auger;
on the loader, the telehandler or the forklift, a hydraulic motor turns it and can reverse it to free a stuck auger.
04 — Plumb and slope Parallel guide, orientation by cylinder:
they keep the auger straight when the ground slopes or the tractor is not level.

05 Check

What is checked before ordering

The power take-off Speed, direction of rotation, shaft slip clutch:
we check that they are those of the chosen auger.
Flow and spool valves For a hydraulic auger:
we check the oil flow, the double-acting control and the return of the machine.
The bit and the drive Not all bits fit all drives:
we check that the bit and the extension suit the chosen head.
Guiding the auger It is checked on sloping ground:
without a parallel guide, the auger follows the tilt of the linkage.
