Auger flight
the last two are consumables.
Synthetic image.
It is the part that works, so the part that wears.
It is chosen on the ground being drilled, not on the machine:
the auger motor, for its part, does not change.
Other names for this tool: auger screw, drill bit, drilling helix, auger spiral, auger tool.

What it is for
Right: in stony ground, the teeth work loose and the tip goes blunt.
What sets it apart:
it is chosen on the ground being drilled through, not on the machine.
Computer-generated image.
A flight is made of three things that do not wear at the same rate:
the helix, which brings the spoil up;
the teeth carried on the cutting edge, which cut;
and the centre point, which starts the hole and holds the axis.
The last two are consumables.
It is the ground that governs, and it alone.
In good soil or in clay, a standard tooth set is enough and progress is steady.
In stony ground, the teeth meet boulders and are torn out:
a tougher tooth set and a reinforced point are needed.
In rock, you no longer work by cutting but by abrasion, and progress collapses.
A flight is a wear part, not a piece of equipment. It is bought with service life and the availability of teeth in mind, not the purchase price.
A flight whose teeth and point can no longer be found is lost on the first abrasive job, while its helix is still good. See the hydraulic auger.
On which machine?
They exist for machines from 1,2 to 45 t.
The connection is hexagonal, 50 or 70 mm depending on the motor.
Large motors take a one-piece shaft.
What the tool does
For example, for a drilling diameter of 150 mm: weight from 25 to 29 kg.
What is needed on the hydraulic side
The flight needs no power: it is carried by the auger.

Your study sets the exact value for your machine.
Have your machine checked.
Tell us the auger drive you own, the diameter you are aiming for and what you know about the ground — including what surprised you last time.
If you cannot describe the soil, describe what becomes of your teeth.

What determines the choice
-
01 — The ground, over the whole depth
A borehole is worth more than an opinion.
Many grounds change in nature before the bottom of the hole, and it is the hardest layer that decides the flight. -
02 — The diameter and the length
They come from the post and the depth aimed at, never from the machine.
A screw that is too wide makes a hole that will not hold without compacted backfill. -
03 — The type of teeth and point
Soil tooth set, stony-ground tooth set, cutter head for rock:
these are three families, not three finishes. -
04 — The drive connection
The flight fits onto the drive you already have.
Its shape and its locking device are specific to that drive.
What is checked before ordering
-
The auger drive already in place
Make, model, and a photograph of the connection.
It is that part that limits which flights can be fitted, not the excavator. - The availability of the teeth and the point Ask the question before buying, not at the first replacement.
-
Buried utilities
Drilling without a prior survey exposes you to a serious accident.
It is not a matter of choosing the flight, but it governs the job. - The number of holes to be made A flight that lasts ten holes and a flight that lasts a few hundred cannot be compared on price.
