Weed-control brush

A brush that turns and tears out the vegetation established between the setts and in the gutters.
No product, no re-entry period, no risk of drift.

Other names for this tool: mechanical weeder, rotary brush, weeding brush, gutter brush, road wire brush, brush weeder.

What sets it apart from a plain sweeper:

Computer-generated image.

The bristles, hydraulically driven, sweep the joint and the bottom of the gutter with enough force to uproot what grows there.
What is torn out stays on the ground and is gathered afterwards; the surface, for its part, comes out clean.

It is the tool of local authorities and site managers who no longer use plant protection products in public spaces.
Where chemical weed control is not an option, mechanical remains — and the brush is what treats a length of kerb fastest.

Fitting it on an excavator has one precise value:
the arm.
It presents the brush against a kerb, in a gutter, along a wall or on a cross slope, without the machine having to go there.
A front-mounted sweeper does not do that.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

A weed-control brush fits an excavator from 1,6 to 10 t.
On a mini-excavator from 2 to 5 t: a brush from 180 to 250 kg.
On an excavator from 5 to 10 t: from 180 to 320 kg.
On an excavator from 10 to 20 t: from 280 to 320 kg.
It attaches to all quick couplers, via a mounting plate, or directly on the pins.

What the tool does

It is used for weed control by brushing.
The common widths are 1 000, 1 200, 1 400, 1 600 and 1 800 mm, to be checked with you.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

It needs an auxiliary circuit with continuous flow.
On the models recorded: 60 l/min at 140 bar.

Figures taken from 16 models on the market.
Your study sets the exact value for your machine.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Give us your excavator model, the type of surfacing and the length to be treated.
Say whether the surface is fragile or recent:
that is what decides between steel and nylon, and it is the only mistake that is hard to put right.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its make and its tonnage.
  • The auxiliary circuit Its flow in l/min, its pressure in bar, single- or double-acting.
  • The coupler in place Its system and its class.
  • The work The use, and the material.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

Rotary brush pressed into a gutter against a kerb, tearing out the vegetation
The brush works in contact with the kerb, where nothing else goes. No product, no re-entry period — and it is the excavator's arm that makes it possible to present it in the gutter.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The nature of the bristles Steel tears out everything, including what you wanted to keep:
it marks a soft sett, a new joint, a resin surface.
Nylon or a mixture respect the surface but call for several passes on well established vegetation.
It is the surfacing that decides.
  • 02 — The diameter of the brush A large diameter covers a clear length faster.
A small one reaches a corner, the foot of a piece of street furniture, a kerb joint.
The real job is rarely made only of straight lines.
  • 03 — The working tilt The gutter is not in the plane of the carriageway.
Being able to tilt the brush decides whether you really clean the bottom, or only the edge.
  • 04 — The wear, which is the real cost The brush is a consumable:
it gets shorter with every hour of work.
Its replacement price and how easily it is changed weigh more, over a season, than the price of the tool.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The auxiliary line and its flow The brush turns continuously throughout the work. See the 7 criteria.
  • The surface to be treated Old setts, concrete setts, asphalt, flagstones, exposed-aggregate concrete, sand joints or cement joints:
that is what governs the choice of bristles.
A brush that is too aggressive causes lasting damage to a surface, and the damage shows.
  • The throwing A rotary brush throws grit and debris.
In a shopping street or near parked vehicles, the perimeter to be kept is part of the preparation.
  • The interface Coupler type and size, or pin dimensions.
The tool is supplied with the matching plate — see the couplers.
