Boom LED lighting

Hydraulic excavator at work as night falls: LED floodlights are lit on the boom and on the cab, their beams visible in the air, lighting the bucket resting on the ground in front of a heap of soil.
What has to be lit is not the machine:
it is the place where the tool is working.

What has to be lit is not the machine:
it is the place where the tool is working.
It is the positioning that makes the quality of the lighting, not the announced power.

Other names for this tool: boom floodlight, work lamp, excavator-mounted site lighting, LED bar.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, with lights on the boom, the cutting edge and the bottom of the excavation stay lit. On the right, with the light on the cab, the arm casts a shadow over the bottom of the excavation. Computer-generated image.

Left: with lights on the boom, the cutting edge and the bottom of the excavation stay lit.
Right: with the light on the cab, the arm casts a shadow over the bottom of the excavation.
What sets it apart:
mounted on the boom, it follows the tool instead of lighting the landscape.

An excavator working at night, in winter or in underpinning work needs to see the cutting edge of the tool, the bottom of the excavation and the area where people stand.
Floodlights mounted on the boom follow the tool, which lighting fixed on the cab does not do.

The practical issue is glare:
a badly aimed light dazzles the driver by reflection off the bucket, or dazzles the people on the ground and the neighbours.
Good lighting is aimed on the machine, at night, once it is fitted.

A machine floodlight lives in an environment few pieces of equipment can stand. Constant vibration, impacts, pressure washing and swings in temperature get the better of approximate installations.
The weak point is almost never the lamp:
it is the bracket, the cable run and the connector.

02 What we check with you

On which machine?

LED lighting fits all machines, on the boom, the cab or the upperstructure.
The position of the lights: we calculate it with you for your machine.

What the tool does

The useful luminous flux and the protection rating of each light: we calculate them with you for your machine.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

It runs on the 12 or 24 V on-board electrical system, depending on the machine.
The exact voltage, the permitted range and the power of each light: we calculate them with you for your machine.

Figures taken from our models on the market.
Your study sets the exact value for your machine.

Don't have these figures?
A photo of the machine is enough to start.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Tell us when the machine works at night and what has to be seen:
the bottom of the excavation, the tool, or the area around.
And tell us which machine, for the fixing points.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its exact make and model.
  • What is fitted What equips the machine today.
  • The on-board electrical system Its voltage: 12 or 24 V.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The area to be lit The bottom of the excavation, the tool, the rear of the machine:
these are not the same floodlights nor the same positions.
  • 02 — The type of beam Wide for the working area, narrow to reach a long way out.
  • 03 — Resistance to vibration and washing It is what decides the real service life.
  • 04 — The cable routing Along a boom that moves, it is the sensitive point of the installation.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The night work actually carried out Occasional or regular:
the requirement is not the same.
  • The fixing points available Without drilling what must not be drilled.
  • The electrical capacity of the machine It is checked before adding more consumers.
  • The constraints of the neighbourhood A night job in a built-up area obeys local rules:
they are asked of the client.
