Log splitter
no percussion.
Synthetic image.
A wedge, a ram, and a log that opens.
The point is not to split harder:
it is to split where the wood has fallen, without carrying it.
Other names for this tool: excavator-mounted hydraulic splitter, splitting wedge, wedge splitter, log splitter.

What it is for
Right: the screw splitter turns its way into the wood, a different principle from the pushed wedge.
Computer-generated image.
The wedge is pushed by a ram fed by the machine:
the wood opens along the grain, with no percussion.
On short, regular logs, the movement is repetitive and quick.
What the excavator brings is carrying the tool to the wood rather than the wood to the tool:
in the forest, at the edge of a felling site, on a heap that is hard to reach.
The gain is measured in handling avoided, not in splitting force.
It is the knot that decides, not the diameter. A straight, sound log opens easily;
knotty or twisted wood jams the wedge, and it is freeing it that costs time.
Describe the real wood, not the average wood. See the screw splitter.
On which machine?
They exist for machines from 0,8 to 40 t.
For example, on a 2 to 5 t mini-excavator, the weight is generally from 106 to 400 kg.
A log splitter fits all quick couplers, via a mounting plate, or directly on the pins.
All classes are possible: the right size, we calculate it with you for your machine.
What the tool does
It is used to split logs.
For example, on a 2 to 5 t mini-excavator: torque from 2 338 to 12 000 N·m.
Its weight: we calculate it with you for your machine.
What is needed on the hydraulic side
It needs a dedicated double-acting hydraulic circuit, at the end of the dipper arm.
The working pressure is generally from 180 to 300 bar, depending on the size of the machine.

Have your machine checked.
Tell us the volume of wood to split per year, the species and the regularity of the logs.
State where the work is done:
in the forest or on a storage yard, the answer is not the same.
- Your machine Its make and its tonnage.
- The auxiliary circuit Its flow in l/min, its pressure in bar, single- or double-acting.
- The coupler in place Its system and its class.
- The work The use, and the material.

What determines the choice
-
01 — The wood to be handled
Species, regularity, knots:
that is the first factor, before the machine. -
02 — Wedge or screw
The wedge pushes and opens cleanly;
the conical screw screws in and copes better with difficult wood.
These are two different movements. -
03 — The shape of the wedge
Single, cross-shaped, multiple:
it determines the number of pieces per pass, and the force required. - 04 — Holding the log while it is split Wood that rolls wastes more time than the splitting itself.
What is checked before ordering
- The annual volume of wood It is what says whether the tool is justified, or whether a static splitter is enough.
- The hydraulic line available A double-acting ram calls for a dedicated line at the end of the dipper arm.
-
