Mini-excavator tiltrotator

A tiltrotator fitted at the end of the dipper arm of a mini-excavator, bucket tilted and turned out of line with the machine, on a building site.
The same function as on a large machine:
but here, every centimetre of reach counts.
Synthetic image.

The same function as on a large machine.
But on a mini-excavator, what it adds at the end of the arm is taken directly off the useful reach.

Other names for this tool: compact tiltrotator, mini-excavator tiltrotator, mini-digger tilting rotator.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, along the facade, it is the bucket that pivots, not the machine. On the right, with the tiltrotator, the mini-excavator loses digging depth. Computer-generated image.

Left: along the facade, it is the bucket that pivots, not the machine.
Right: with the tiltrotator, the mini-excavator loses digging depth.
What sets it apart:
the same function as on a large machine, but every centimetre counts more here.

It is on small machines that work in a confined space is most frequent:
gardens, blocks of flats' courtyards, trenches along a façade.
The tiltrotator therefore finds its natural ground there.

It is also there that its constraints weigh most heavily:
a light machine has little load chart margin, few hydraulic lines and little digging depth to sacrifice.

In these classes, the trade-off is real and it has to be set out honestly. The gain in precision is clear;
so is the loss in reach and in depth.
We prefer to say so beforehand, rather than leave the disappointment to the fitting.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

They exist for machines from 2 to 12 t.
For example, on a 2 to 5 t mini-excavator, the weight is generally from 67 to 323 kg.
It fits between the excavator and the tool, with an interface on both sides.
On other classes, its weight: we calculate it with you for your machine.

What the tool does

It tilts the tool 55° to each side, i.e. 110° in total.
For example, on a 2 to 5 t mini-excavator: width from 330 to 416 mm, length from 490 to 620 mm.
Tilting is done by a hydraulic motor, without a ram, with a worm-drive slew ring running in grease.
A rotation sensor accurate to ± 1° is available as an option.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

It needs two hydraulic lines, controlled by joystick.
It generally needs from 28 to 45 l/min, depending on the size of the machine.
The oil passage is standard; electrical channels, five plus one, are available as an option.
The pressure, and the flow on the other classes: we calculate them with you for your machine.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Give us the exact model of your mini-excavator, the number of hoses at the end of the dipper arm, and the digging depth you need.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its make and its tonnage.
  • The auxiliary circuit Its flow in l/min, its pressure in bar, single- or double-acting.
  • The coupler in place Its system and its class.
  • The work The use, and the material.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The share of work in a confined space If it is the majority, the trade-off soon leans one way.
  • 02 — The machine's load chart margin It is thin in a small class:
    it is checked, not estimated.
  • 03 — The hydraulic lines Many mini-excavators do not have enough, and adding them can be costed.
  • 04 — The digging depth needed What you add in height, you lose in depth.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The exact number of lines at the end of the dipper arm With a photograph to back it up.
  • The load chart of your model With the whole fitted, arm extended.
  • The digging depth your jobs call for Before, not after.
  • The driver's training It counts double on a machine where the margins are thin.
