Coupling and adapting

Coupler taking the original pins

A coupler that grips the tool's original pins directly, without an intermediate mounting plate: the pins, the link and the ram can be seen, and the bucket mounted as close as possible to the dipper arm.
It grips the pins instead of requiring a mounting plate:
it keeps in service tools that were never designed for a coupler.

It grips the tool's pins instead of requiring a mounting plate.
That is what makes it possible to keep in service tools that were never designed for a coupler.

Other names for this tool: jaw coupler, tool-pin coupler, universal pin coupler.

01 Use

What it is for

The principle is reversed:
instead of adding a mounting plate to each tool, the coupler comes and takes the pins that are already there.
An old, mixed fleet, pin-mounted, becomes usable again without sending every bucket to the workshop.

It is often the most economical solution when you own many old tools and do not want to convert them all.
On the other hand it requires the pin dimensions of the tools to be compatible with one another.

It does not make up for just any difference in dimensions. Tools whose pin centres differ too much cannot be taken by the same coupler.
The reading tool by tool is the real work, and it is done before the purchase.

On the left, the coupler grips the two original pins of an old bucket directly, without adding anything to it. On the right, the conventional set-up requires a plate welded or bolted onto every tool before it can be picked up. Computer-generated image.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

They exist for machines from 2,4 to 75 t.
For example, on a 10 to 20 t excavator, the weight is generally from 175 to 955 kg.
The coupler uses the machine's original pins.
Reversible mounting: the tool goes in face-shovel or backhoe position.

What the tool does

Locking is semi-automatic, with an automatic safety: pin, check valve or safety screw depending on the version.
For example, on a 10 to 20 t excavator: pin diameter from 50 to 90 mm, pin centres from 330 to 530 mm.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

The coupler is controlled by double-acting hydraulics.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Tell us how many tools you want to keep in service, and read off for each of them the pin diameter and the pin centres.
It is that table that decides.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its make and its tonnage.
  • The auxiliary circuit Its flow in l/min, its pressure in bar, single- or double-acting.
  • The coupler in place Its system and its class.
  • The work The use, and the material.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The spread of the dimensions of your tools It is what decides feasibility, more than the tonnage.
  • 02 — The number of tools to keep Few tools:
converting them to mounting plates sometimes costs less.
  • 03 — The rigidity sought Any coupler adds one more connection, so one more potential source of play.
  • 04 — The safety of the locking It is checked as on any coupler, without exception.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The reading of the dimensions of each tool Diameter, pin centres, width — tool by tool, to the millimetre.
  • The condition of the pins and the bores Existing wear limits what can be taken.
  • Compatibility with the machine On the dipper arm side, it is the excavator's dimensions that govern.
  • The double safety It is no more negotiable here than anywhere else.
