Teeth and knives for felling heads

On a forestry workshop bench, a set of carbide-tipped saw teeth and three new delimbing knives; behind, a disc felling head standing on the ground. Computer-generated image.
The carbide-tipped saw teeth, and the delimbing knives, new, ready to fit.
Behind, the disc felling head that takes them.

The parts that cut on a felling head.
The saw teeth bite into the trunk, the knives delimb.
They wear, are changed as a set, and give the head back its pace.

Other names for these parts: feller saw tooth, felling head disc tooth, delimber knife, harvester head knife, delimbing blade, felling head wear part.

01 Use

What they are for

A felling head cuts the tree, delimbs it and crosscuts it without anyone getting down from the cab.
Everything depends on a few steel parts:
the teeth of the saw disc, and the knives that remove the branches as the trunk passes through.

These parts wear from wood, sand and frost.
When blunt, they make the head strain, mark the trunk and slow the cut:
they are changed as a set, and the head gets back its pace.

The saw tooth

On feller buncher heads, a large-diameter disc carries a ring of bolted teeth.
Each tooth carries a tungsten carbide tip brazed onto an alloy steel body.
For example, a disc takes a set of 18 teeth, all changed together to keep the disc balanced.

The delimbing knife

On harvester heads, fixed knives on the frame and movable knives on the arms grip the trunk and slice off the branches as the rollers move it forward.
They are hardened chromium-molybdenum alloy steel blades, sharpened on one side.
Some can be turned over, others resharpened or hard-faced.

For which heads

We supply them for the heads of the major brands:
Waratah, Ponsse, Komatsu, John Deere, Log Max, Kesla, SP Maskiner, AFM, Nisula, Tigercat, Quadco, Gilbert, GN Roy, and for others from a photo of the part.
Aftermarket parts, not original manufacturer parts, available from stock for the common models.

A tooth missing from the disc unbalances the saw. The teeth are changed as a complete set, and the disc is checked at every set.
A blunt knife does not cut the branch, it tears it off:
the head strains and the trunk gets marked.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

The saw teeth fit on the disc of feller buncher heads and of some harvester heads.
The delimbing knives fit on harvester heads:
fixed on the frame, movable on the arms.
The model of the head is read on its plate; the part mark is read on the part in place.

What the tool does

The saw tooth carries a tungsten carbide tip brazed onto an alloy steel body, and is bolted to the disc.
For example, a feller buncher head disc takes a set of 18 teeth.
The delimbing knife is a hardened chromium-molybdenum alloy steel blade; depending on the model, it can be turned over, resharpened or hard-faced.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

Fitted on the head, these parts need no connection.
The head, for its part, connects to the excavator or the carrier:
that point is checked on its own page.

03 Your study

Have your felling head checked.

Send a photo of the head plate, a photo of a tooth or a knife in place, and the number of parts.
We identify the reference with you before pricing.

What we need to answer you
  • The head Make, model and serial number, on the plate.
  • The part in place One photo from the front and one from the side, with its fixing.
  • The number Teeth on the disc; fixed knives and movable knives.
  • The wood Conifers or broadleaves, frozen wood, sandy ground:
    it changes the recommended steel.
  • The quantity One set, or the stock for the season, and the delivery address.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The head model Each head has its own teeth and knives:
the part is chosen from the plate and the mark, not by eye.
  • 02 — Carbide or steel The carbide tip lasts longer in dirty or frozen wood;
steel can be resharpened on the spot.
  • 03 — The complete set The teeth are all changed together:
the disc stays balanced and the cut stays clean.
  • 04 — Fixed or movable Fixed knives and movable knives do not have the same profile:
    they are ordered separately.
  • 05 — The season's stock A head stopped for want of teeth costs more than the spare set:
    the season is planned ahead.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The head plate Make, model and serial number:
    the reference depends on it.
  • The part mark It is read on the part in place; a photo is enough.
  • The bolts The class and length of the bolts are taken from those in place; they are ordered with the set.
  • The disc A warped disc or a cracked tooth holder is replaced before the teeth.
