Hammers and carbide tools for forestry mulchers

On a bench, a set of new forestry mulcher fixed tools, with one, two and three carbide tips, with their bolts; behind, the open rotor of a forestry mulcher. Computer-generated image.
Carbide-tipped fixed tools, new, with their class 10.9 bolts.

The tools on a forestry mulcher's rotor.
They shred stumps, branches and stones, and it is their tip that does the work.
With a worn tip, the mulcher consumes more and mulches less:
the set is changed.

Other names for these parts: forestry mulcher hammer, fixed mulcher tool, forestry mulcher tooth, carbide tool, mulcher pick, forestry mulcher flail, stone crusher hammer, vegetation mulcher hammer, swinging hammer, A3 hammer, carbide tooth, carbide tip, hammer pin.

01 Use

What they are for

A forestry mulcher carries a rotor fitted with tools that strike the material at high speed:
branches, stumps, brush, and stones on the models designed for it.
All the work is done at the tip of the tool, on a few square centimetres of carbide.

This tip wears, above all in soil and stone.
Once worn, it crushes instead of cutting:
the engine strains, the rotor heats up, the output drops.
The complete set is changed, with its bolts, and the mulcher is back at work.

The carbide-tipped fixed tool

Fixed to the rotor by two bolts, it does not pivot:
it always strikes in the same direction.
One tip for clean wood, two tips for green waste and wood, three tips with reinforcing inserts for stone.
For example, a single-tip tool for a forestry rotor weighs 1.4 kg and is fixed by two M14 × 90 bolts of class 10.9.

The swinging hammer

Mounted free on a rotor pin, it swings back on an obstacle and returns by centrifugal force.
It is the tool of verge hammer mulchers and vegetation mulchers; it is changed as a set, with its pins when they are ovalised.

The hammer comes in two versions.
The standard version is replaced once worn; it is the cheapest to buy.
The rebuildable version is hard-faced again instead of being replaced: more expensive to buy, it lasts longer.

The stone crusher hammer

On a stone crusher, the fixed tool with three carbide tips replaces the hard-faced hammer when the ground is very abrasive.
The hard-faced hammer remains the economical solution:
see the Stone crusher hammer page.

For which mulchers

We supply them for the rotors of the major brands:
Pierre et Cailloux, Plaisance, FAE, Prinoth, Fecon, Ferri, Denis Cimaf, Kirpy, Tierre, Ventura, Belafer, MDB, Energreen, AHWI, RSBM, and for others from a photo of the tool in place.
Aftermarket parts, not original manufacturer parts, available from stock for the common models.

A mismatched set unbalances the rotor. The tools are all changed together, with their bolts.
A bolt of a lower class breaks at the first impact:
class 10.9 is not a detail.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

These tools fit on the rotor of forestry mulchers and stone crushers, with fixed tools or with hammers.
The model of the mulcher is read on its plate; the type of tool and its mark are read on the tool in place.
The number of tools on the rotor is counted with you, with the mulcher stopped and chocked.

What the tool does

The fixed tool weighs from 1.4 kg, single tip, to more than 8 kg for a carbide stone crusher hammer, depending on the rotor.
Its two bolts are M14 or M16 on forestry mulchers, M24 × 240 on stone crushers.
The tungsten carbide tip is brazed onto the alloy steel body; the reinforcing inserts protect the underside.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

Fitted on the rotor, they need no connection.
The mulcher, for its part, needs flow:
that point is checked on its own page.

03 Your study

Have your rotor checked.

Send a photo of the mulcher plate and a photo of a tool in place, with its bolts.
We identify the model and count the set with you before pricing.

What we need to answer you
  • The mulcher Make, model and year, on the plate.
  • The tool in place One photo from the front and one from underneath, tip visible.
  • The number The tools fitted on the rotor, and the number of bolts per tool.
  • The ground Wood, green waste, stumps, stone:
it decides the number of tips.
  • The quantity One set, or the stock for the season, and the delivery address.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The rotor model Each rotor has its own tool shape and bolt centres:
the tool is chosen from the plate and from the tool in place.
  • 02 — The number of tips One tip for clean wood, two for green waste, three for stone:
more tips, more carbide, longer wear life.
  • 03 — Fixed or swinging The fixed tool strikes hard and lasts; the swinging hammer forgives obstacles:
it is the rotor that decides, not preference.
  • 04 — The complete set The tools are all changed together, with their bolts:
    the rotor stays balanced.
  • 05 — The season's stock In stone, a set of tips wears out in one campaign:
the next set is planned before it is needed.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The mulcher plate Make, model and year:
the shape of the tool depends on it.
  • The tool in place Its mark and its number of tips can be read on it.
  • The bolts Diameter, length and class are taken from those in place; they are changed with the set.
  • The rotor A cracked tool holder or an ovalised pin is repaired before fitting the new set.
