Digging and ditching

Reinforced bucket

An added protection plate, bolted with four hexagonal bolts on the side of a bucket whose plate carries the marks of wear.
The side wears faster than you think:
an added plate is replaced, a plate worn through is welded up again.
Synthetic image.

The same work as an earthmoving bucket, in ground that wears.
It does not dig better:
it lasts longer.

Other names for this tool: heavy-duty construction bucket, heavy bucket, bucket with protections.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, wear plates added on the bottom and sides, the body is not eaten into. On the right, in topsoil, the reinforcement adds nothing and makes the bucket heavier. Computer-generated image.

Left: wear plates added on the bottom and sides, the body is not eaten into.
Right: in topsoil, the reinforcement adds nothing and makes the bucket heavier.
What sets it apart:
the wear areas are always the same — they are doubled so that the body of the bucket is not eaten into.

The areas that wear on a bucket are always the same:
the bottom, the front corners, the sides.
A reinforced bucket doubles them with added, replaceable plates, so that the body of the bucket is not eaten into.

It is essential in stony fill, in clinker, in demolition spoil — everywhere the material rubs instead of letting itself be picked up.
In topsoil, it brings nothing but weight.

Reinforced means heavier. That weight comes off the payload at the end of the arm, and it cannot be made up for.
On a machine already at the limit of its load chart, a standard bucket properly looked after is often worth more than a badly sized reinforced bucket.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

They exist for machines from 10 to 52 t.
For example, on a 10 to 20 t excavator, the weight is generally from 198 to 1 149 kg.

What the tool does

It is used for digging and ditching.
For example, for a width of 1 000 mm: capacity from 460 to 1 400 l, number of teeth from 3 to 5.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

It needs no hydraulic connection: it is a passive tool.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Describe the material you are picking up and the service life you see today on your buckets.
It is that difference that will say whether the reinforcement pays for itself.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its make and its tonnage.
  • The auxiliary circuit Its flow in l/min, its pressure in bar, single- or double-acting.
  • The coupler in place Its system and its class.
  • The work The use, and the material.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

Reinforced earthmoving bucket picking up a heap of stony fill, bolted wear plates visible on the bottom and the sides
The wear plates are bolted, so replaceable. It is the body of the bucket that they protect — and it is that which is not replaced.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The real abrasiveness of the material It is not the hardness that wears:
    it is the rubbing.
A fill of rubble wears more than a compact rock you cannot pick up.
  • 02 — The areas to be protected Bottom, corners, sides, edge:
they do not all wear at the same rate depending on the work.
  • 03 — The extra weight accepted It is measured against the load chart, not against the price.
  • 04 — Whether the protections are replaceable A protection welded on permanently protects only once.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The dominant material on the site Described, not summed up in one word.
  • The total weight in relation to the load chart Bucket full, arm extended.
  • The interface Coupler designation, or pin dimensions to the millimetre.
  • The availability of the wear parts It counts as much as the price of the bucket.
