Lifting eyes

You want to lift a load with your excavator, from a point designed for it.
Three points decide:
the load and the reach, where the eye sits, the lifting capacity of the whole assembly.
A photo of the tool and the coupler is enough to start.

A lifting eye welded to the back of a bucket, taking a shackle and a hook whose safety catch is closed; a taut textile sling runs away towards the load.
A welded eye, a shackle, then a hook closed by its safety catch:
three distinct parts, each with its own maximum load.

The hitching point provided, calculated and marked for slinging a load.
Lifting with an excavator is regulated:
it is not a diverted use of the bucket.

Other names for this tool: lifting ring, slinging point, bucket eye.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, the sling hangs from a ring welded to the back of the bucket, closed by a safety catch. On the right, a sling placed on a bucket tooth, ready to slide towards the tip. Computer-generated image.

Right: a sling placed on a bucket tooth, ready to slide towards the tip.
What sets it apart:
it turns a tolerated practice into a regulated operation — it is not a diverted use of the bucket.
Computer-generated image.

Slinging a load on a bucket tooth is a widespread and dangerous practice:
the tooth is not calculated for it, and nothing holds the sling if it slips.
The lifting eye is the point provided for it:
the sling is attached with a shackle closed by its pin, or with a hook whose safety catch holds the sling as long as it is closed.

It turns a tolerated practice into a regulated operation:
a known maximum load, legible marking, a periodic inspection made possible.

Four parts, four roles. The eye is the fixed point, welded or bolted, drilled to take a shackle.
The shackle links the eye to the sling and closes with a pin.
The hook is an open part that takes the sling.
The safety catch is the spring-loaded finger that closes the opening of the hook.
The lifting capacity is checked for the whole assembly:
the excavator at working reach, the coupler, the eye, the shackle, the hook and the sling, and the weakest of them sets the permitted load.

Fitting an eye is not enough to make the lifting regular. Lifting with an earthmoving machine obeys rules:
suitable equipment, safety devices, an informed driver.
We supply the part and the information;
the conformity of your organisation is yours.

02 What we check with you

On which machine?

Lifting eyes fit on the tool or on the coupler, on all excavator classes.
They can be welded or bolted, with a lifting point at the front or on the side.
The fitting, the lifting point and the excavator's lifting capacity: we calculate them with you for your machine.

What the tool does

They are used for lifting, with a shackle, a hook and a sling.
The capacity of the assembly is the lowest of the loads permitted by the excavator, the coupler, the eye, the shackle, the hook and the sling.
The maximum load per eye, its weight and the capacity of the assembly: we calculate them with you for your machine.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

They need no hydraulic connection.

Your study sets the exact value for your machine.

Don't have these figures?
A photo of the machine is enough to start.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Tell us what you are lifting, with which machine and at what reach.
We will tell you whether the eye is enough, or whether something else is needed.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its exact make and model.
  • What is fitted What equips the machine today.
  • The work What the machine is used for.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

Each point says what changes the choice.
The values, we check them in your carrier's instructions and in the tool's.

  • 01 — The load to be lifted It is declared, it is not estimated.
  • 02 — The place On the tool or on the coupler:
the lever arm and the behaviour are not the same.
  • 03 — The link with the sling On an eye, a shackle closed by its pin;
on a hook, a safety catch that closes the opening.
A hook without a safety catch lets the sling go.
  • 04 — The marking An illegible maximum load protects nobody.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The maximum working load Marked, and consistent with the machine's load chart.
  • The carrier's lifting load chart The weak point can be the machine, the coupler or a lifting accessory:
the capacity is checked for the whole assembly, at working reach.
  • The conformity of the whole assembly The devices required for lifting must be present and in working order.
  • Periodic inspection It exists, and it is planned for.
