Working the soil

Stone crusher

A stone crusher hitched to a tractor works stony ground; the stone is reduced to pieces behind the rotor.
The stone is reduced where it lies.
Synthetic image.

A heavy rotor, tools that strike, and the stone reduced on the spot.
It is not carted away:
it is crushed where it lies.

Other names for this tool: cobble crusher, tractor rock crusher.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, the stone is crushed on the spot, behind the rotor, without being carted away. On the right, the other route, picking up the stones and carting them off the field. Computer-generated image.

What sets it apart:
it is not carted away, it is crushed on the spot.

The rotor turns continuously, driven by the tractor's power take-off.
The stone is reduced by percussion, between the tools of the rotor and counter-plates.

It is the tool for ground where stones cannot, or are not to, be taken out:
vineyard, stony pasture, reclaimed land.
Depending on the model, it works over a narrow or a wide width, for tractors of very different power.

A stone crusher throws, and it throws what it finds. Fragments can fly far and fast.
The perimeter to be kept, the protections of the tractor and of the machine, and a complete stop before any intervention are part of the job, not options.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

It is hitched to a farm tractor.
Depending on the series, it takes from 35 to 400 hp.
The maximum permitted power ranges from 50 to 500 hp, depending on the series.

What the tool does

Its crushing tools: hard-faced or carbide hammers, fixed anvils or movable anvils adjustable from the cab.
For example, for a cutting width of 1 075 mm: number of knives from 73 to 88, weight from 1 000 to 2 250 kg.
In the civil-engineering series, it works at a depth of more than 40 cm.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

It is driven by the tractor's power take-off, at 1 000 rpm.
The hydraulic version, on a straddle tractor or mini-excavator, needs from 60 to 100 l/min at 250 to 400 bar, to be checked with you.

03 Your study

Have your equipment checked.

Describe the ground, the nature of the stones and the tractor that will carry the machine.
Tell us what borders the zone:
road, houses, fences.

What we need to answer you
  • Your tractor Its power, in hp.
  • The power take-off Its speed: 540 or 1000 rpm.
  • The hitch The three-point linkage category.
  • The hydraulics The spool valves available.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The stones to be handled Their size, their hardness, their number:
they are not the same tools nor the same tractor.
  • 02 — The tools of the rotor, hinged or fixed Hinged hammers or fixed teeth:
each works the stone in its own way, and wears in its own way.
The ground decides, not the catalogue.
  • 03 — The tractor available Power, linkage, power take-off:
a rotor turns all day, it is a continuous need.
  • 04 — How the ground is used afterwards Cultivating, grazing, planting:
it is the use that fixes the result expected.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The nature and hardness of the stones Described, not estimated:
it is the point that sizes the tool and the tractor.
  • The wear parts Hammers, teeth, rotor:
the parts in contact with the stones wear fastest.
Their replacement is planned before choosing.
  • The protection of the tractor and of the site Glazing, hoses, cab;
and the perimeter kept around the crushed area.
  • What the land allows The specification of the owner or the farmer:
we do not settle it for you.
