Concrete pulveriser

Concrete pulveriser fitted on the arm of an excavator, crushing a reinforced concrete beam with the bars sticking out, building being deconstructed
The jaw crushes the concrete and frees the bars:
deconstruction separates the materials at source.
Synthetic image.

It does not bring the structure down:
it picks up on the ground what has fallen, reduces the concrete and leaves the bars bare.

Other names for this tool: secondary pulveriser, concrete crusher, pulverising jaw, pulverising grab.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, on the ground, the pulveriser breaks down a slab block, the concrete drops off in plates and the reinforcement comes free. On the right, attacking a wall that is still standing is the crusher's job, not reducing a heap. Computer-generated image.

Right: attacking a wall that is still standing is the crusher's job, not reducing a heap.

The short, toothed jaw of a pulveriser squeezing a reinforced concrete slab: the concrete comes away in plates and falls, leaving the reinforcing mesh intact underneath.
The concrete goes in plates, the reinforcement stays:
that is what makes it possible to recover it whole instead of crushing it.
Synthetic image.

Its jaw is short and heavily toothed:
it squeezes a piece of wall or slab until the concrete comes away in plates, and the reinforcement comes out clear.
The movement is repeated, piece by piece, until the heap is reduced.

The result aims at the next stage:
concrete reduced enough to go to crushing, and clean scrap that goes to its own channel.
It is as much a sorting tool as a demolition tool.

The trade's vocabulary does not settle between crusher and pulveriser, and we shall settle it no further. The same jaws are sold under both names.
What really differs is the work station:
attacking a standing structure is not reducing a heap on the ground. See the concrete crusher.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

A concrete pulveriser fits an excavator from 1,5 to 110 t, via a mounting plate, on all couplers.
On an excavator from 5 to 10 t: a pulveriser from 440 to 740 kg.
On an excavator from 10 to 20 t: from 700 to 2 800 kg.
On an excavator over 20 t: from 1 600 to 8 200 kg.

What the tool does

It is used to pulverise concrete in demolition.
Its closing force ranges from 100 to 130 t, to be checked with you.
Depending on the model: interchangeable cutting blades and teeth, bolt-on teeth replaceable without welding, pressure intensifier, to be checked with you.
Also comes in a rotating version, through 360°.
The jaw opening: we calculate it with you for your machine.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

It needs an auxiliary hydraulic circuit, at 250 to 350 bar depending on the size.
From 10 t, the flow ranges from 130 to 260 l/min.
On a 5 to 10 t excavator, the flow: we calculate it with you for your machine.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Tell us what you demolish, what becomes of the concrete afterwards, and whether the scrap leaves sorted.
It is the rest of the chain that designates the tool, not the heap.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its make and its tonnage.
  • The auxiliary circuit Its flow in l/min, its pressure in bar, single- or double-acting.
  • The coupler in place Its system and its class.
  • The work The use, and the material.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The work station Primary demolition at height or secondary handling on the ground:
the jaw is not the same.
  • 02 — The reinforcement It is what, more than the thickness, decides the force needed.
  • 03 — The fineness aimed at It depends on what comes afterwards:
a crusher bucket does not accept just any piece.
  • 04 — The wear parts Teeth and blades work in direct contact with the concrete and the steel.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • What follows in the chain Crushing on the spot, carting away, or handling by a third party.
  • The hydraulic functions One for the squeezing, a second if the tool turns.
  • The load chart in the handling position On the ground, often overhanging to the side.
  • The interface Coupler designation or pin dimensions.
