Pallet fork and loader carriage

A telehandler lifts a pallet of fertiliser bags on a pallet fork with an open-frame carriage, in front of a farm shed; the tips of the tines remain visible through the carriage, no one is visible.
The open-frame carriage lets you see the tips of the tines.

They turn the loader into a forklift,
for the pallet, the crate, the wood or the bale.

Other names for this tool: loader pallet fork, fork carriage, fork carrier plate, telehandler forks.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, tines spread to the width of the load, pallet resting against the carriage. On the right, with the load moved out to the end of the tines, the real capacity drops. Computer-generated image.

Right: with the load moved out to the end of the tines, the real capacity drops.
What sets it apart:
the tines slide on a standardised carriage and spread to the width of the load.

A carriage couples to the loader, and two forged tines hook onto it, slide and lock at the desired spacing.
Depending on the model, the spacing is adjusted by a ram, the carriage is open-framed to see the tips of the tines, and it takes bale tines, a gripping arm or extensions.

It is the tool for pallets of fertiliser or seed, crates, long timber and bales, where there is no forklift.
A rotating adapter, fitted between the loader and the tool, turns the load to tip it out or set it down at an angle.

The capacity of a fork is read at a given distance from the carriage. The further the load moves towards the tip, or onto an extension, the less it can weigh.
The permissible load depends on the model, not on a generic figure.

02 What we check with you

On which machine?

A pallet fork fits a farm loader, a telehandler or a tractor, not an excavator.
Depending on the model, it hitches via a Euro hitch or via the three-point linkage.
The tractor power, the linkage category and the loader's lifting capacity: we calculate them with you for your machine.

What the tool does

It is used for handling and lifting pallets.
Without options, it weighs from 150 to 290 kg, to be checked with you.
Its safe working load ranges from 1 500 to 3 500 kg, to be checked with you.
The working width: we calculate it with you for your machine.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

It works without a drive, or with hydraulics for the spacing and the accessories.
The power take-off speed, the number of spool valves and the third function: we calculate them with you for your machine.

Figures taken from 6 models on the market.
Your study sets the exact value for your machine.

Rounded values, taken from the models we track.
A range covers the whole family, class by class.
What is missing, and the value for your machine, are worked out with you.

03 Your study

Have your equipment checked.

Describe what you carry, pallets, wood or bales, and the loader that will carry the fork.
Specify the useful accessories.

What we need to answer you
  • On a tractor Its power in hp, and the power take-off speed: 540 or 1000 rpm.
  • The tractor hitch The three-point linkage category, and the spool valves available.
  • On a loader Its hitch, Euro or another, and its lifting capacity.
  • The 3rd function Present or not.
  • The work The use.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

Not to be confused
  • Pallet forks and lifting hook Principle — forks and a hook mounted on the excavator, through its coupler mounting plate.
Use — they carry the pallet where the site has only the excavator, under the lifting rules.
  • Lifting hook Principle — a marked slinging point, fitted with a safety catch, mounted on the excavator.
Use — it suspends a pipe, a manhole or a kerb, and the operation then comes under lifting rules.
04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — What is carried Pallet, crate, wood, bale, long load:
the length and cross-section of the tines are chosen with the actual load.
  • 02 — The machine and the hitch Loader, telehandler, Euro hitch, linkage:
the carriage is chosen with the machine that carries it, and its class with the tines.
  • 03 — Adjusting the spacing By hand for loads that are always the same, by ram for loads that change:
    how often they change decides.
  • 04 — The accessories Bale tines, gripping arm, hold-down frame, extensions, rotation:
    a well-chosen carriage takes several.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • Capacity at the right distance It is checked with the centre of gravity of the actual load, not with the figure marked on the carriage.
  • The class of the carriage and tines Carriage and tines must be of the same class:
we check that they hook on and lock.
  • The extensions They are chosen with the cross-section of the tines:
we check that they fit over them without play.
  • The hitch Loader or telehandler coupler:
we check that the coupling matches the machine.
