Coupling and adapting

CW type coupler

Quick coupler seen at three-quarters, off the machine
A quick coupler unit, off the machine:
the hook that takes the pin, the locks and their position indicator.
The image shows the principle common to all standards, not one standard in particular.
Illustration based on an existing product.

A Verachtert designation, very widespread in Europe.
Sizes CW05 to CW70:
as for the S type, the number follows the class of the machine.

Other names for this tool: CW type, CW coupler, Verachtert standard.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, a single coupler standard for the whole machine and the whole tool fleet. On the right, two standards mixed, and every tool needs its mounting plate twice over. Computer-generated image.

Left: a single coupler standard for the whole machine and the whole tool fleet.
Right: two standards mixed, and every tool needs its mounting plate twice over.
What sets it apart:
the fleet's standard decides, and it decides alone — mixing two standards doubles the mounting plates.
Computer-generated image.

It is one of the two standards most often met with on European sites, alongside the S type.
The principle is the same:
a single interface at the end of the dipper arm, and as many mounting plates as there are tools.

One point deserves to be said plainly, because it costs dear when it is not known:
a tool on an S plate does not fit on a CW coupler. The two standards cover the same machine classes, but they are not interchangeable.

Our table of sizes has empty boxes, and we leave them empty. Some ranges in the CW series have not been confirmed with the maker.
An approximate figure looks as credible as a recorded one — that is what makes it dangerous. See the table.

02 Key technical data

On which machine?

The CW-type coupler exists for all excavator classes, depending on its size.
The CW standard runs from size CW00 to size CW40.
On a CW coupler already in place, the size is read on the coupler.
The excavator class for each size: we calculate it with you for your machine.

What the tool does

This coupler is used to couple and adapt tools.
Its weight: we calculate it with you for your machine.

What is needed on the hydraulic side

Depending on the version, the coupler works mechanically or hydraulically.
For the hydraulic version, the flow and the pressure: we calculate them with you for your machine.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Give us the designation marked on your coupler and the model of your excavator.
If you cannot find it, a photograph of the end of the dipper arm is enough.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its make and its tonnage.
  • The auxiliary circuit Its flow in l/min, its pressure in bar, single- or double-acting.
  • The coupler in place Its system and its class.
  • The work The use, and the material.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The size, read on the coupler CW05, CW10, CW20, CW30, CW40, CW45, CW55 or CW70.
The designation is marked on the coupler.
  • 02 — The fleet's standard It decides, and it decides alone:
mixing two standards doubles the mounting plates to be managed.
  • 03 — Mechanical or hydraulic The standard describes the geometry;
    the locking is another question.
  • 04 — The availability of mounting plates It is good for the common sizes, more uncertain at the ends of the range.
A mounting plate is commonly obtained from CW0 to CW40.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • The exact designation Read off the coupler, never deduced from the tonnage.
  • The model and tonnage of the machine They serve as a check, not as a rule.
  • The tools already in service Their mounting plate imposes the standard of the next tool.
  • The version of the system Successive developments of the same standard do not always fit one another:
that point is checked case by case.
