Cab glazing

Machine cab glazing, seen in place on the structure
Machine glazing is not car glazing:
thicker, often toughened, and it works together with the cab.
Illustration based on an existing product.

A broken windscreen stops the machine as surely as a hydraulic failure.
And it is replaced without going through the manufacturer, provided you know what you are ordering.

Other names for this part: cab window, excavator windscreen, machine glazing, cab glass, side window.

01 Use

What it is for

On the left, thick, toughened machine glazing fitted in its cab, the thickness shows on the edge. On the right, a cracked windscreen left in service no longer protects the operator. Computer-generated image.

The thickness shows on the edge:
this is not car glazing, and it is not ordered as such.

Machine glazing is not car glazing:
it is thicker, often toughened, sometimes bonded, and it works with the structure of the cab.

It is replaced when it breaks, but also for wear:
a windscreen scratched by years of dust tires the driver, especially against the light.

Never work with a cracked windscreen while waiting for the part. The cab takes part in protecting the driver; a cracked pane no longer plays its role in the event of a roll-over or a falling object.

03 Your study

Have your machine checked.

Tell us the model and the serial number of your machine, and which pane is concerned.
Two photographs, from the front and at an angle, nearly always save us an error of reference.

What we need to answer you
  • Your machine Its exact make and model.
  • What is fitted What equips the machine today.
  • The work What the machine is used for.

Without these details, the study still begins: we will ask you for them.

04 Choice

What determines the choice

  • 01 — The exact position Windscreen, quarter light, door, roof, rear:
each pane has its shape and its way of being fitted.
    Name yours precisely.
  • 02 — Toughened or laminated Toughened glass breaks into grains, laminated glass cracks and holds.
The choice follows the exposure to flying objects.
  • 03 — The method of fitting Bonded, on a rubber seal, on a frame:
the bonded one calls for equipment and a curing time, the seal can be fitted on site.
  • 04 — The protection added A protection screen extends the life of the pane in a demolition area.
It costs less than a windscreen, and far less than a stoppage.
05 Check

What is checked before ordering

  • Record the model and the serial number:
cabs change part-way through a production run more often than you would think.
  • Measure the pane in place — height, width, thickness — and photograph it from the front and from three quarters.
  • Look at the method of fixing before ordering:
a bonded pane is not fitted like a pane on a seal.
  • Allow for the removal:
on a bonded pane, it is taking the old one out that takes the time, not fitting the new one.
