Silage milling roller
Synthetic image.
A roller armed with knives, mounted in front of the bucket.
It mills the silo face instead of tearing it,
and leaves a clean surface that keeps.
Other names for this tool: silage milling cutter, unloading roller, silage cutter, roller silage unloader.

What it is for
Right: torn out with a plain bucket, the silage face rips and opens to the air.
What sets it apart:
the knives of the roller turn against the face and make the silage fall into the bucket, without disturbing the heap.
Computer-generated image.
A roller fitted with hardened steel knives, driven by one or two hydraulic motors, is attached in front of a loader bucket.
The bucket moves down the silo face, the roller mills the silage which falls into the bucket, and an adjustable tilt adapts the attack to the heap.
This is the tool for daily unloading at the bunker silo or the clamp silo.
A milled face stays compact, little air gets in, and the silage does not heat; combined with a distributor bucket, it unloads, carries and distributes in a single pass.
Not all rollers mill grass. Some are made for maize and pig feed, and clog on long-fibre grass silage.
The oil flow and the output depend on the model, not on a generic figure.
On which machine?
A milling roller fits on the bucket of a farm loader, a wheeled loader or a telehandler.
It does not fit an excavator.

What determines the choice
-
01 — The silage to mill Maize, pig feed, chopped grass:
the arrangement of the knives and the power of the roller are chosen with the actual silage. -
02 — One motor or two One motor is enough for moderate unloading,
two motors hold the effort on a dense or wide face. -
03 — The bucket that carries it Existing loader bucket, high-capacity bucket or distributor bucket:
the roller is chosen with the bucket on which it is mounted. -
04 — The hydraulics of the machine Single-acting control with free return, or double-acting:
the roller is chosen with what the machine supplies.
What is checked before ordering
-
The oil flow It is checked on the actual machine:
the roller must keep its speed in the densest silage. -
The oil return In single-acting, a pressure-free return is required:
we check that the machine has one. -
Mounting on the bucket Brackets, motor guard, hose routing:
we check that they fit the bucket and that the hoses remain protected. - The capacity of the loader It is checked with the bucket full and the roller fitted, not with the bucket alone.
